James Kowalski

Environmental Engineering · TU Delft

James Kowalski is a PhD candidate in Environmental Engineering at TU Delft, supervised by Prof. Mark van Loosdrecht. His thesis designs and optimises sequencing batch bioreactor configurations for biological phosphorus removal and struvite crystallisation from municipal wastewater, enabling circular nutrient recovery. Seven publications in Water Research and Environmental Science and Technology reflect his contributions. James collaborated with Royal HaskoningDHV on a pilot installation at the Harnaschpolder WWTP near The Hague and was awarded a STOWA grant for process optimisation. He has received job offers from three water technology companies including Paques and Biothane. His bioreactor designs are now being evaluated for European utility scale-up.
