PhD & Postdoc
Jakob Muller
Renewable Energy Systems · RWTH Aachen University
Jakob Muller is a PhD candidate in Renewable Energy Systems at RWTH Aachen University, supervised by Prof. Dirk Uwe Sauer. His thesis investigates electrochemical and mechanical degradation mechanisms in solid-state lithium-sulphur batteries at the cell and module scale, combining in-situ characterisation with accelerated ageing protocols relevant to multi-hour grid storage applications. Twelve publications in Advanced Energy Materials and Journal of Power Sources document his contributions to solid electrolyte interface understanding. Jakob is part of the EU-funded SolidStar consortium and has filed one patent on electrolyte additive formulations. He is joining the BMW battery research centre in Munich upon graduation. His solid-state battery degradation models are being incorporated into battery management system firmware by two European automotive manufacturers.
