Hyun-Ji Park
Synthetic Biology · KAIST
Hyun-Ji Park is a PhD candidate in Synthetic Biology at KAIST, supervised by Prof. Gyoo Yeol Jung. Her thesis engineers a redox-balanced, cofactor-optimised Corynebacterium glutamicum chassis with enhanced L-tryptophan biosynthesis flux, achieving titres exceeding 65 grams per litre in fed-batch fermentation — the highest reported outside of industrial proprietary strains. Thirteen publications in Metabolic Engineering and ACS Synthetic Biology document her strain engineering and fermentation optimisation work. Hyun-Ji received the Korean Ministry of Science Excellent Research Award and completed a collaborative experiment at the Juelich Research Centre's Systems Biotechnology group. She has accepted a principal scientist role at CJ CheilJedang's bio-fermentation division. Her engineered strain is the basis of a commercial amino acid production licensing agreement covering three Asian manufacturing sites.
