Carlos Ibarra

Environmental Toxicology · CINVESTAV

Carlos Ibarra is a PhD candidate in Environmental Toxicology at CINVESTAV, supervised by Prof. Leobardo Manuel Gomez Olivan. His thesis characterises the endocrine-disrupting effects of bisphenol A substitutes — bisphenol F and bisphenol S — in Daphnia magna and Hyalella azteca, measuring reproductive inhibition, ecdysone receptor interference and detoxification enzyme induction under ecologically relevant concentrations. Seven publications in Environmental Pollution and Science of the Total Environment document his bioassay and mechanistic findings. Carlos received a Conacyt doctoral scholarship and presented his findings to COFEPRIS, Mexico's federal chemical risk authority, influencing draft guidelines for BPA substitute risk assessment. He has been offered an environmental health scientist position at a BASF regulatory affairs office in Mexico City. His LOEC values for BPS reproductive toxicity are now incorporated into a draft OECD test guideline.
